Dr. Apostolos Tsapas is  Professor of Medicine & Diabetes at Aristotle University Thessaloniki, and Head of the Diabetes Centre and the Second Medical Department at Ippokratio General Hospital, Thessaloniki, Greece. He is also senior research fellow at Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford, UK. Dr. Tsapas has been involved in the development of the Hellenic diabetes guidelines, and the ADA/EASD 2012 position statement on the management of hyperglycaemia in type 2 diabetes, the 2015 update and the 2018 consensus report. He has also co-authored several systematic reviews and meta-analyses on a broad range of therapeutic and diagnostic interventions in diabetes, which have been published in peer reviewed journals. His main research interests include knowledge synthesis (systematic reviews and meta-analyses), evidence-based practice, and clinical decision making in medicine and diabetes.

Dr. Tsapas earned his MD and PhD degrees from the Aristotle University Thessaloniki. He completed his training in Internal Medicine at the Second Medical Department at Ippokratio General Hospital. He earned his MSc degree in evidence-based healthcare at the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine (CEBM) at the University of Oxford. Dr. Tsapas also completed a fellowship at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) in UK. In 2011 he worked for six months as visiting scientist in the Knowledge and Evaluation Research Unit at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN.
