Aris Liakos holds a primary appointment as Assistant Professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He also works as a hospital-based physician Consultant in Internal Medicine at Ippokratio General Hospital, Thessaloniki, Greece and serves as an elected member of the Executive Board of the Hellenic Association for the Study and Education of Diabetes Mellitus.

Dr. Liakos was born in 1988 and primarily qualified as a doctor from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2012 achieving the third highest admission score in the national central examination process. In 2010 during his undergraduate studies he attended classes as visiting student at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany. In 2014 he also obtained an MSc degree in Medical Research Methodology with high grades from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki supported by a post-graduate scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation. Since 2012 he has been working as a research fellow at Clinical Research & Evidence-Based Medicine Unit, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. As part of his PhD degree he successfully coordinated a multicentre, investigator-initiated randomised controlled trial in the field of Diabetes (Grade: Excellent with Distinction).

Dr. Liakos has developed strong quantitative skills in evidence synthesis of healthcare interventions including network meta-analyses and systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy studies and has co-authored more than 50 articles published in high impact factor journals with over 3,500 citations (Google Scholar h-index 22). He has also contributed in the design and conduct of several research projects supported by the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD).

Dr. Liakos has received formal training in Indirect and Mixed Treatment Comparisons from the Universities of Leicester and Bristol as well as in Statistics for Clinical Trials from the University of Oxford, UK. Dr. Liakos was recently certified as Level 2 guideline panel methodologist after attending the International Guideline Credentialing and Certification (INGUIDE) programme organised by the Guidelines International Network in collaboration with McMaster University, Canada. Dr. Liakos teaches a number of courses at under- and post-graduate level including Internal Medicine, Advanced Life Support (Certified Instructor by the European Resuscitation Council), Evidence Based-Medicine, Clinical Research Methodology, How to write a paper, Clinical trials and Systematic Review and Meta-analysis and has been repeatedly honoured with prizes for excellence in teaching.
